Cause for suicide

Suicide is the intentional taking of ones life. Each year, thousands of American teenagers take their lives, through the huge problem of suicide. Among the 15-24 year olds in America, it is the third cause of death. It is also the sixth leading cause of death for the children in the age group of 5-14 years old. With these statistics, the number of teenage death by suicide adds up to nearly 5,000 people each year. Male teens are four times more common in death by suicide. however, Female teens are also four times more frequent to attempt a suicide.

Suicide and attempts at suicide are triggered by several reasons. Teens are often overtaken by stress, and other problems. They have their self-doubts in their decisions and choices, and feel constant pressure by their friends and other peers. Also, teens can feel defeated by their fears in life, and by troubles in their home life, friendships, and relationships. Troubles that exist in their home life may be a move to another house, a new member in the family, or the death of a loved one. Depression may be the product of all of these problems. Whatever the reason, teens will feel so consumed by these problems that taking their life seems as though it were the only escape and answer.

Recognizing that a teenager has thoughts of a possible suicide attempt may be possible, as long as one has the ability to notice these signs. The teen may lose their normal appetite, and sleeping patterns. He or she will also avoid their friends, family and hobbies. His or her behaviors and attitude with drastically change, whether it be in schoolwork, emotions, or just their personality. Also, the teen will feel as though he or she is rejected, and have a constant attitude of hopelessness. Another common sign is that the child will become violent and abuse alcohol and drugs. Before a suicide a attempt, teens often give away important possessions, things that hold sentimental importance and value. Hopefully, after learning these signs, you will be able to recognize if a friend has thoughts of suicide, and you can find him or her help and support.

  1. I am happy to see that all have posted the initial assignment, however, Constantine's was late by one day. The post date was midnight Tuesday, April 27, as stated on the Final Project handout. Therefore the entire group will loose 5 points off the group grade for this deadline.

  2. Suicide happens everyday. Even though teens need to find the help by guidance and other people. I believe that the best way of curing the urge of suicide is by having faith in God. By praying and going to church i think that God will help those people get through not only suicde but other problems that could happen.

  3. I feel that these are valid reasons for suicide, and are real problems that many people face. Suicide is a real problem that people face, and happens too often. Suicide, for most people, is a way out of a bad situation; however it doesn’t have to be. It is something that, I think, can be treated and prevented from happening. If you see the tell-tale signs, confront that person and see if you can help, it just might save a life. There are many causes for suicide, and just as many treatments. Perhaps, you can direct the person to TWLOHA or a doctor, to help them with their problems. Advocating life and all the good things in it can also help. If we can only help a few people, it was worth all the effort; any life is a precious life, worthy of being saved.

  4. Suicide is a tough subject. It is all around you and you do not even realize it. Listen to music you may even hear it in a song. You may hear some artist battling his own problems. Suicide destroys our age group but we fail to over come it. The best way is to recognize and talk to the person. Learn to know how they are feeling. Show that you care.
